COMELEC and ARTA partners toward streamlining processes during COMELEC Gun Ban

The Commission on Elections (COMELEC) and the Anti-Red Tape Authority (ARTA), together with the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), the Philippine National Police-Firearms and Explosives Office (PNP-FEO), Landbank, and the Semiconductor industry, will create a Technical Working Group (TWG) to streamline and harmonize PNP processes on the application of the Certificate of Authority to Transport (CA-TT).

Given the long-standing issues and problems linked with the Gunban policy’s implementation during elections, COMELEC Chairman Garcia and ARTA Sec. Perez agreed to go beyond band-aid solutions to address the bottlenecks. It was agreed that after the TWG agreements had been reached, a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) will be drafted. Sanctions shall be imposed for incorrectly declared data/information to address application discrepancies.

The agreement was made during the courtesy meeting on 5 April 2023, attended by COMELEC Chair George Erwin Garcia, ARTA Secretary Ernesto Perez, SEIPI President and Chairman of the Networking Committee on Trade Policies and Procedures Simplification (NCTPPS) Dr. Dan C. Lachica together with the Export Development Council Deputy Director Elsa Valenzuela, and other representatives from the Semiconductor industry. AGPM
