PBBM embraces public-private collaboration to develop PH as key player in e-vehicle industry

PBBM welcomed the public-private sector collaboration to develop the e-vehicle industry in the country during the Private Sector Advisory Council (PSAC) Job Sector Groups (JSG) Meeting on 17 August 2023.

With this collaboration, this could help the PH exporters as they can potentially export locally manufactured electric vehicles and EV components to other countries. As global demand for electric vehicles grows, there may be opportunities for Philippine manufacturers to tap into international markets.

This can also create more jobs across various sectors, including manufacturing, research and development, sales, and maintenance through the establishment of EV manufacturing plants, battery production facilities, and charging infrastructure. Skilled workers would be needed for the production of EVs, and there would be opportunities for engineers, technicians, and support staff.

Considering the potentials of the e-vehicle industry, the President also recognized the challenge in demand to source power from green energy in pursuing an EV industry in the Philippines. In response to the challenges, Marcos emphasized the importance of the private sector and government exercising careful deliberation. He directed the PSAC-JSG to furnish a comprehensive roster of their presented proposals, which they have committed.

Those in attendance at the PSAC-JSG meeting included Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin, Labor Secretary Bienvenido Laguesma, Finance Secretary Benjamin Diokno, Department of Trade and Industry Secretary Alfredo Pascual, NEDA Secretary Arsenio Balisacan, Chief Presidential Legal Counsel Juan Ponce Enrile, Secretary Alfredo Lagdameo, Presidential Adviser Frederick Go, CHED Chairman Prospero De Vera III, DA Senior Undersecretary Domingo Panganiban, and Administrator Hernani Fabia of the Maritime Industry Authority.

Representing the private sector were Sabin M. Aboitiz of Aboitiz Equity Ventures Inc., Joey Concepcion III of RFM Corp., Alfredo Ayala of AC Education Inc., Rizalina Mantaring of the Ayala Corp., Kevin Tan of the Alliance Global Inc., Doris Magsaysay-Ho of the Magsaysay Group of Companies; Teresita T. Sy-Coson of the SM Investments Corp.
